Increased focus on ESG post COP26

Only 7% of food businesses have targets and reporting aligned with a 1.5˚C trajectory, while over half of businesses in the benchmark have no climate target at all The Grocer reported recently.⁣

Despite this severe lack of credible targets, there is an increasing focus on ESG (Environment, Social and Governance). COP26 had the backing of Sainsbury's whilst Tesco moved their new net zero target and Marks and Spencer launched their Plan A. ⁣

Recent shopper research by Deloitte found that nearly one in three shoppers have stopped buying products due to sustainability concerns and 50% of consumers regard themselves as more eco-friendly than 6 months ago.⁣

The supply chain will become part of these plans which is helpful because shoppers are also demanding a focus on environment and community - all will be pushing and should increase the focus on ESG for the supply chain.⁣
