Sainsbury's makes more moves towards sustainability in store.

Another step change for sustainability in our supermarkets. Since last week, Sainsbury's is no longer using plastic wrapping on its five-pack Fairtrade bananas.

From May 22, the grocer replaced the plastic bag with a paper band in all stores. According to Sainsbury's, this will result in the shop removing 25 million single-use plastic bags, equivalent to 75 tonnes of plastic.

In the following months, the grocer will also implement additional plastic reductions throughout its product lines. This includes removing plastic caps from all salad and coleslaw products, transitioning to glass packaging for all nut butters this month, and upgrading to quadruple strength squash bottles next month.
